Our original business, Diversos de Guatemala, was begun in July 1991 with the idea of incorporating many diverse products into one export business.  At that time the only product with which we had experience was cardamom, but we soon added allspice, annatto, and beans to our roster.  Since all of these products are seasonal, we began seeking another business which we would enjoy and which could be maintained all year long. 

         Since we are located in Alta Verapaz – one of the prettiest parts of Guatemala, with abundant rainfall and rich natural flora –  after a year of investigation we came to the conclusion in August 2,000 that growing ornamental plants was the new business we were looking for.  So at that time Diversos de Guatemala began constructing greenhouses and promoting ornamental plants.

         After a few months we decided that the plant business deserved a new name; thus was born La Floresta Ornamentales, S.A.  This decision allowed us to retain Diversos de Guatemala for consumable agricultural products and La Floresta Ornamentales specifically for ornamental plants.
